About Dr. David College of Nature Studies

Discover our story, our leadership, and the values that drive Africa's foremost traditional medicine training institution.

Founded in 2006, Driven by Purpose

Dr. David College of Nature Studies was founded in 2006 as an outgrowth of Akpan Natural Divine Medicines, with the specific purpose of training qualified persons in the science of African traditional medicine.

The college was established by Prof. (Dr.) David Akpan Ntuk, who has spent a lifetime in traditional medical practice, production, marketing, and administration. His principal product โ€” the David Balm โ€” is among five NAFDAC-registered herbal formulations credited to his name, leading to his formation of the Akwa Ibom State Association of NAFDAC-registered Traditional Medicine Manufacturers and Marketers.

In 2006, Dr. Ntuk was elected Vice President South-South of the National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP). He recognized the urgent need for practitioners to speak with one voice, receive uniform training, and adopt a scientific and academic approach to their craft.

He subsequently invited and convened a board of experts from various fields โ€” chaired by Prof. Godwin O. Essien โ€” to brainstorm and fashion out an appropriate curriculum, leading to the formal establishment of DDCNS.
